Financial Literacy Program Alumni Luncheon

Kudos goes to Dr. Wima Smith Beauford, Program Director, of the Financial Literacy Program as she hosted an Alumni Luncheon for graduate students on December 28, 2006. In addition to a lovely lunch at the Improv Comedy Club in Homestead, the students were presented several words of encouragement from program founder, Dr.Howard B. Slaughter Jr,who has been exceptionally instrumental with the concept and implementation of this program. In addition, Rev. Mitch Nichols, Pastor and host of the program "A Nichols Worth" on Cornerstone TV and a Robert Morris University Dean also spoke to the youth. Dr. Beauford also presented a special award to Dr. Slaughter for all of his hard work and endeavors provided to this program. The Financial Literacy Program is a financial summer enrichment program for ages 14-17 years of ages the educates these youth of about the importance and knowledge of good financial awareness and preparation.

The program covers everything from financial savings, investments to maintaining, repairing and keeping a good credit rating and score. At the completion and graduation of this program, each student is provided a $300.00 graduation financial gift which is deposited into a new Skybank account. This account is arranged through the efforts of Dr. Slaughter's wife. Mrs. Slaughter, a Skybank executive.
